I sent you a "MMI: Scan UDS" scan from my ECU at the beginning of the year - did that include the ASAM dataset info?

Here's my ECU & TCU from VCDS:

Hi Stefan, what do I need to do to access my TCU? Do you need info from me?

2020-08-12
- The structure of the settings file has changed, therefore this firmware will need a new settings file
- It is now possible to select a different control unit for every table. This allows to define a view for the transmission control unit, e.g. to read the transmission fluid temperature

Thanks. Do you think you'll be able to publish the VC background/needle files (you mentioned on the YouTube video that you need the originator's permission)?

Stefan, thanks for the "scroll through all tables" option - it's exactly what I want.
I set some of the "decimals" in my tables but after uploading the file they seem to have been ignored as all my measurements are shown with 3, and most are .000 - have I misunderstood this feature? The file definitely uploaded because I also changed a couple of the measurement values and they are shown changed.

Thanks, so do I need to create background and gauges files for the virtual cockpit?

I'd had been thinking of checking if there had been any updates and I see that I missed loads of them! I was also unaware that there was a manual...

Stefan, please can you answer -
1) What's the new Virtual Cockpit layout? Is it as per your recent YouTube vids? Since there's no new background file is it just a single non-configurable layout?
2) If I check "Scroll through all tables" how do I select the tables when driving?
3) I see that the android app has been updated - what are the significant changes?

Thanks. I'll try it out and let you know what I think.

Hi Stefan, I have just seen that the new FW allows 5 tables. Since my ECU only allows me to have 8 values in the table, does this mean that after I use the new FW, I will also be restricted to 8 values in the other 4 tables?

Based on your changelog comment am I correct in understanding that there will still be only 2 screens, but the new FW will allow the 2nd screen to be switched between tables with a new "option view"?

Does the system have the capability to have more than 2 screens as an alternate method of viewing the tables?

Thanks - that is worrying. Some people believe that Autowatch are using this device:

I'll be honest that its not really a problem and it doesn't happen often. The freezing is the real problem, but that has only happened twice. If I'm the only user seeing this then it doesn't seem to warrant significant effort. However if you do want to make such a change next time you update the FW I'm happy to use it.

While I have your attention, I wanted to ask if you know if there might be any conflict between FIS-Control MMI and CAN bus-based immobilisers such as Autowatch Ghost? If not then I might fit one next year and I'd be inclined to splice into the wiring of harness for FIS-Control MMI rather that the loom of my car. Can I get information on the wire colours - signals for the harness?

Hi Stefan, I haven't had the "freezing" issue again but I have seen the display change from FIS-Control to Audi (Nav screen) without my using the control. It very clearly coincided with start/stop. This makes me doubt that it is a roller issue and more likely that on my car the start/stop is interfering with your unit.

14

(15 replies, posted in English forum)

Yes I do. That's what makes the roller switch between MMI, gauges and the list of (in my case 8) measurements?

Stefan, this happened again last night. I have much more information in case it helps:
1) I noticed it after pulling out from a junction where the car had activated stop/start
2) All 8 values were frozen, and to values that matched the engine having stopped. So for example the battery voltage was below 12V and the supercharger revs were 0prm. But I had positive readings for EGT and oil temp which were realistic for the engine status.
3) The 3 gauges were also frozen, matching their 3 values.
4) I was able to use the roller to switch between the 2 FIS control MMI screens and the MMI screen (as per your suggestion in#2 above, so this did not fix the problem).
5) I held down the MODE button until the setting screen appeared (I did not know this screen existed). I could use the roller to change the line selected, and the mode button ticked and unticked the "automatic start" checkbox.
6) When I rolled down to select the "Engine information" line (or similar title) the screen went black apart from the line at the bottom. Now the roller and mode button did not change anything.
7) The line at the bottom showed temperature, time (frozen to the time of the event) and the bluetooth icon (the notification icon had gone).
8) At the end of my journey I switched off the power and restarted - and it was all back to normal.

I have one more comment, but I don't know if it is related. For a while I have very occasionally noticed that the screen has changed from the 3 gauges to the MMI screen (SatNav map) without my doing anything. I thought it might have happened after stop/start, so I checked that and it wouldn't change on its own when I was watching it. It is rare and I haven't seen it happen, I just occasionally see that it had changed to the map so I need to put it back the the gauges.

Thanks Stefan, it works - this is a great feature :-)

I have a few questions:
1) The very first time I tested it the notification displayed for less than 1 second and then disappeared without my doing anything. Then for all tests after that it stayed until I cleared it. Is this expected?
2) It took me a while to find out that I can clear the notification by holding down MODE for a couple of seconds - is this correct as you designed it?
3) I assume that it is only able display the latest notification?
4) Whilst a new SMS simply replaces the last one (if I did not clear it), the email is different. If a second one arrives before I clear the first, the display changes to just "2 messages" and there does not seem to be a way to see the second email. Is this expected?
5) Pushing my luck here - can you make it generate a sound when a notification arrives?

Sorry Stefan I missed your reply until now.

SMS package: com.samsung.android.messaging
E-mail package: com.microsoft.office.outlook

vielen Dank!

All OK apart from the showing notifications. But I may have made an assumption: I was focusing on the email part of your release note "There is a new notification app for Android that forwards WhatsApp and eMail notifications to the FIS-Control". I don't use WhatsApp but I do use the Outlook App for e-mail and I was hoping it would work for SMS text notifications too. Both are enabled in the Android Notifications settings. Any chance they can be made to work?

(15 replies, posted in English forum)

Yes, I have done that and restored my previous settings.
I also see the new notifications icon on the FIS-Control MMI screen, but nothing happens when my phone shows a notification. I have definitely enabled FIS-Control Notifications.
In the App I see "Package: de.fis_control.notification". Does this have anything to do with the MMI: Send Notification option which appears in the latest version of the uploader app? Have I missed a step?

Also can you confirm if there is a problem with the latest uploader app. As I stated in my previous comment, I do not get the MMI: Send settings option in the latest version and I had to revert to the previous version.

Thanks. I am having a bit of trouble with this, but it was a while since I last configured my FIS-Control.
I updated to the latest FW but then it wouldn't work.
I assumed that in deleting the FW first, my data was lost, so I uploaded background and needle again.
But when I tried to upload settings I couldn't find the option. I only found MM: Send Notification.
So I uninstalled the uploader app and went back to the 26/8/2018 version which I had a copy of.
Now I was able to upload my settings, but it still wouldn't work.
I am now assuming that my old .dat file is no longer compatible with the new FW so I'll create a new one.

Thanks. It installed OK. On app settings "Permissions" I have "no permissions required". On "Notifications" I have "app icon badges" and "FIS-Control Notification/Sound".

I installed the app on my Samsung Galaxy S8 with Android 9 but I just get the "app keeps stopping" error message.

Stefan, I just loaded my config file into https://fis-control.de/mmi.html and it shows measurement values for #8 and #9, but without label or unit. Since with my ECU only 8 measurements can be used, could this be a problem? Should I try to create a new file where #8 and #9 are totally blank?

24

(15 replies, posted in English forum)

Thanks Stefan, I will certainly try that if it happens again. I have e-mailed the file.
I am interested why the voltage should have been shown as about 11.7V. Do you know if maybe that is actually the minimum value for that register?

I have my S5 screen gauges set to EGT, supercharger revs and boost. Yesterday whilst driving I noticed that the supercharger revs needle was at zero, and even with the clutch open it is always at least about 200rpm which is noticeable. I cannot be 100% sure that the other two needles weren't also at zero but I think I would have noticed if they were.

So I changed to the measurements list screen and indeed the supercharger revs were 0. But I also noticed that the battery voltage was about 11.7V, which for my car under those circumstances it would normally show over 14V. Again I wish I had been paying attention to the other values but I didn't, however I feel fairly sure that I would have noticed if they weren't right.

Even though the car itself wasn't warning me of trouble I stopped to check the drive belts. Both were OK. So I got back in and started the car and it was back to normal with expected supercharger revs and battery voltage. I then continued on several journeys and everything was fine.

I had done an aggressive VCDS autoscan the day before and there were no faults. I have just done another one and there are still no faults. So the only reason I have to suspect that anything is wrong is due to those measurements shown on FIS-Control MMI.
