Dear Stefan,

Is there any cable sets that on sale support Canbus on GOLF MK4?
I would like to buy one instead of rework the cable for socket E by my own. Thank you :-)

Hi Stefan,

Sorry, I have to clarify that I swapped the cluster from Golf MK4 R32 MFA (1J0920826J) to Passat B5.5 GP FIS cluster (3C0920849).

Are the following statements correct?
1. Golf MK4 cluster: Only uses 3-wire-bus. Does not care about the CAN BUS messages.
2. Passat B5.5 cluster: Automatically decides which bus to use if it sees messages from CAN BUS.

As I know, many MK4 owners uses Passat B5.5 GP FIS cluster to upgrade their cluster from MFA to FIS one.
Mostly 3C0920849 since it is cheaper and easier to find.
If FIS-Control could support CAN BUS and graphics function on VW clusters, it would be great.

I will try to connect the CAN BUS cable by my own in the following weeks to see how it works and report you if any issues found.

Thank you for your prompt reply and detailed response :-)

Hi Stefan,

Finally, I got it works!
The communication channel between FIS-Control and cluster seems to be occupied by my radio (Delta 6) which uses CAN-BUS.

What I did to make it works:
1. I coded my cluster with 16510.
2. Configured the FIS-Control as 'telematics/3LB' by Android APP.
3. Removed the Delta 6 radio.
4. Recoded the Gateway.

In troubleshooting guide, it says 'For the VW Golf Mk4/Bora it is not possible to use the FIS-Control if a navigation system or radio is installed that sends data to the cluster screen via CAN bus.? Is this my case due to Delta 6 radio uses CAN-BUS?

It also says 'The FIS-Control automatically detects which bus to use, when the cluster is properly coded.'. How to make FIS-Control and Delta 6 Radio to work together in CAN-BUS mode on Golf MK4 R32? Thank you☺️

Jeremy

Hi,

Yes, I did use the APP to config it to FIS-Control: Telematics/3LB, then I double checked it by using 'firmware version' function. It showed it has been configured as FIS-Control: Telematics/3LB, but still not work.

I also coded my cluster to 16510, but when I turned the ignition on, I can always see the Bluetooth of FIS-Control.

Like what it says in the troubleshooting, it seems the FIS-Control could not connect to the cluster.

I  tried flashed firmware to 2016 old version which has no auto detection of protocol used for FIS-Control, but the result is the same.

I will try to do some experiment by replacing the FIS-Control with another set to see if that works.

Isnthere any other way I can check? Thank you.

Hi,

My friend bought a FIS-Control and I helped to install it on his Golf MK4 R32. After the installation, we switched on the ignition and found the up/down/set button on the wiper stalk did not work. No response at all. I tried flash the firmware to latest 2018/01/28 version and some old 2016 version which works on my MK4 R32, but the 3 button on wiper stalk still not work.

I tried use Android APP to config all kinds of coding of FIS Control, the button still not function.

At last, from the manual, I saw that it says Cable C bridges the wiper buttons, I tried disconnect the Cable C and used wires to connect C1 to C4, C2 to C5, C3 to C6. My up/down/set buttons works again!!

From various test I have done, the wiper is OK, the cluster is OK, the FIS-Control cable seems fine. It seems the FIS-Control accepted the coding, but every time I switched on the ignition, it was always in configuration mode. I don't have to hold the down button in the wiper stalk.

My friend bought two FIS-Control, we will test another set tomorrow to check if the issue only happen on current set.

Could you please help? Is there any other issues that I have to check? Thank you.

Jeremy

Hi Stefan,

After connected the sensor to a 12V power, the reading of input 5 becomes normal now.

Thanks for your prompt support. Thank you.

Hi Stefan,

I just saw there is a print shows 12V on the sensor. I think the wrong reading might caused by wrong power supply.
I will change and power supply first. Thank you :-)

Hi Stefan,

The voltage of the sensor while it is not connected to the FIS-Control is the same with ADC-VOLTAGE reading of sensor input 5.
I got 0.55V from ADC-VOLTAGE with sensor connected to input 5, but got 0.88V from ADC-VOLTAGE with sensor connected to input 1.

While the sensor is not connected to any sensor input, I got 0.55V also, same with that connected to input 5, but the BAR value is too low while connected to input 5. It keeps stays in 0 BAR when car is hot and idle and -0.5 BAR when car is off.

1. How does FIS-Control convert the voltage to BAR? Can it be adjustable?
2. I prefer the reading of sensor input 1. Is there any harm if I connected the sensor to input 1 instaed input 5?

Thank you :-)

Hi Stefan,

Thank you. After unmask , I can see oil pressure now in measure view.

I have one more question. How do I know if my sensor has internal voltage divider and comes with 1.1k or 220 ohms resistor?

I connect my sensor to input #5 and I get 0 bar when my car is hot and idle, but I get 1 bar when connect to input #1. The value seems more normal when connect to input #1.

below values are what I tested with different sensor input:
Input    @a     @b     @c     @d        @e          @f
#1.      11.2     1.3     1        4.98V    0.99V     0.89V
#3.      11.2     6.1     6.1     4.98V    2.92V     2.92V
#5.      4.2       0.3    -0.5     0.11V    0.62V     0.27V

@a: Measure value when no sensor connected.
@b: Measure value with sensor connected and car at idle.
@c: Measure value with sensor connected and car is off.
@d: Voltage when no sensor connected.
@e: Voltage with sensor connected and car at idle.
@f: Voltage with sensor connected and car is off.

Thank you!

Hi Stefan,

I bought a Zada Tech Oil Pressure Sensor
(http://zada-tech.com/products/sensors-r … ure-sensor) which I thought it was supported by FIS-Control.

I connect the '+' line to 5V, '-' to Gnd on FIS-Control and signal line to sensor input #1, #3 #5 on different test, but all does not work.

I have set the sensor input I tested to Zada Tech Oil Pressure in the settings, but my FIS-Control does not show measure view when I select Measure, it just stays in the main menu after I select Measure.

I can see there is 5 volts from 5V pin on FIS-Control and I can measure  0.57 volts when connected to sensor input #5.

The voltage of sensor input #5 rise as I press the throttle pedal.

I am running the latest firmware and I have a 2.2 ver. HW.

Is this caused by the sensor I chose is  not supported yet ? Thank you .

Hi Stefan,

I want to report a display issue that happened on my Passat B5.5 GP cluster and a question about the label setting.

1. After I added labels for measurement values, there is display issue that happened when switching groups.
The LCD pixel that draws the text in last shown group does not clear after switching to other groups and makes the text unreadable on LCD.

You can see in my attached pictures, the label text for value 3 of group 002 did not clear after switch to group 003 and makes the value 3 of group 003 unreadable.

Also in switching from group 010 to group 011, the value 3 still shows the label text of group 010.
Is this caused by anything that I set my labels?

2. How does the label reads and shown by FIS-Control.
For example, if I set a label to 'IgnitionTiming', it will shown as 'IT'.
It shows only the uppercase letters.

3. How many letters can I set for the labels? I tried many settings but cannot figure out the rules. lol.

4. There is a space added automatically before number 1 in the label? Is this a bug or intended?

5. How to tell which version of FIS-Control I own? I see it shows HW 2.X in my FIS-Control settings.

Love this modules, it adds lots of fun to my car. Thank you :-)

Jeremy

Hi Stefan,

I have received my order of FIS-Control.
It is great and working as expected :-)
The installation was a tough task due to the cable provided was too short and thick.
It was very difficult to push the cluster back once cable attached. :-(

BTW, I have some questions. :-)
1. The firmware of the FIS-Control is 2015-06-20 version, but the latest firmware on FIS-Control website is 2015-06-08?
What is the latest firmware version? Should I flash the 2015-06-08 version?

2. The measure view in preset function was not working as expected.
For example, I want to show the RPM measure view with lowest/highest log, and I set the view to Measure in Preset,
and set the control unit, group and value to the RPM value, but it shows all four value of the group I selected,
    not only the RPM value.
Is this normal? Is it possible to show lowest/highest log of single value in measure view in preset.

3. The date set in the Log function will be reset once ignition off.
Is it possible to get the datetime info from GPS?

Thanks!!

Hi Stefan,

Glad to see the FIS-Control on sale.
We have been waiting this for a long time :-)

I have some questions about the FIS-Control:

1. My car is VW Golf MK4 R32 (2003 year) with a 1J0920826J MFA cluster.
I have swapped my cluster to a Passat B5.5 GP FIS cluster (3B0920849).
Should I buy the one for Golf (after 2002) model (http://www.turbozentrum.de/elektronik/a … 2/a-43725/)

    Or

    a Passat (after 2001) model (http://www.turbozentrum.de/elektronik/a … 1/a-43726/)

What is the differences between these models? Wiring harness?

2. I install a MFD G version radio which uses the CAN-Bus to communicate with the cluster, but I don't have the TMC box currently. My cluster cannot get any radio/track info from the MFD.

The FIS-control will only use 3LB on VW platform.
If the FIS-control will work normally on my cluster (Passat GP 5.5 cluster on a Golf MK4 R32)?
Will it blocked by the MFD G radio which uses CAN-Bus?

3. Is it possible to support the CAN-Bus on VW platform in the future?

Really appreciate for your great product!! Thanks!!

Jeremy
